This page is sent with the header Cache-Control: public, max-age=86400, which tells the browser it may keep this copy for a day and use it without asking the server again. The rest of the site is sent with Cache-Control: no-cache, which means "store it if you like, but ask me before you reuse it" - and asking the server is exactly what is impossible with the wireless off.
So this is the weaker of the two offline tests, and the more interesting one: it asks whether an old browser will show a page it holds, when there is no network at all.
1. Load this page and leave it a moment, so a copy is stored.
2. Press Menu, then Turn Wireless Off.
3. Press Menu, then Reload.
4. This page again, complete with its black borders, means yes. An error
page, or a blank page, means no: the browser has the copy but insists on
checking with the server first.
